Report from March 29-30 Colorado’s Monarch Mountain only reported three inches of snow over the weekend. The conditions felt much better, though. Trip Report: Snowbird, UT – “Pipeline Couloir” on July 21, 2023

Report from July 21, 2023 “Pipeline Couloir” at Snowbird, UT yesterday was a buck-wild adventure ski! Maybe the best adventure skiing I’ve ever had anywhere… Rockfalls, waterfalls, evil melted-out black bomb holes, second-thought-inducing steeps, convoluted/corrugated snow, violent pitch changes, unholy spine-chokes, a large rocky waterfall mid-chute, and more rocks-embedded-in-snow than you can shake a stick at. I actually removed about […]

Report from May 31, 2023 Yesterday morning, we went for a mellow classic that we’d never done before. Up at 4am. Hiking by 6am. We went for the Central Bowl. Good firm snow for cramponing was a godsend. We moved well due to the firm snow and it was a dream not to be post-holing for once! This zone is […]

Trip Report: McGee Creek Peak, CA – 2,800-Vertical-Foot “Wineglass Couloir”

Report from May 18, 2023 Brought to you by Mono County Tourism Chasing Connery Lundin down “Wineglass Couloir” yesterday was a blast! Yesterday, we went for a fun chute after scaring ourselves a bit on Tuesday’s very steep “Pete’s Dream.” Wineglass Couloir is 2,800 vertical feet! It also isn’t freezing at night, so Wineglass Couloir’s NW aspect was perfect. This line […]

Mammoth Mountain, CA Conditions Report: Spring Groomers, Wind Buff, and Wild Mountains

At the end of every season, a spring Mammoth Mountain trip is called for. We left Donner Summit, CA early on Saturday morning and showed up for some afternoon fun.  Friday night brought low temperatures, skiffs of new snow, and high winds, so we took our time and let things heat up. Lower aspects were perfect creamy corn snow– always a spring favorite.  Steep wind buffed […]

Mammoth Conditions Report: Windy Corn Harvest

We awoke today in Mammoth in a ripping wind. Mammoth was reporting 50-70mph winds at the top of the mountain. When we arrived, we found that it was actually much windier at the bottom of the mountain than at the top. The park is at the bottom of the mountain and was sacraficed to the wind. The park was empty today. The upper mountain, however, wasn’t as windy. The groomers off the […]
