When we think of Japan we think of January, not April. In January, big snowfall is like clockwork but in April, the sun comes out and reveals the incredible high mountains of the Japanese Alps as well as their 18-foot-deep snowpack. The Japanese Alps are located about 5 hours northeast of Tokyo and they reach heights of over 10,000-feet. These mountains are big, steep, and gorgeous. They’re easily accessible via the numerous ski resorts in the are that will usually drop you off at around 6,000-feet. This is where Jeremy Jones went in Japan in his movie “Further”. VIDEO: Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan Opens for the 2018 Season

After carving through this year’s snowfall, Japan’s Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is now open for the season.  Known for it’s amazing Snow Wall Walk when it first opens, the walls reached 17 meters this season.  The route goes through the Northern Japenese Alps from Mt.
