Sunny Sessions between Super Storms @ Squaw During the month of January 2017, over 23 feet of snow fell around the Tahoe region. After the first 10 feet, a few days of reprieve occurred over the MLK holiday. This gave time for the resorts to dig out and open more terrainโฆjust in time for an old kid like myself to have some fun. Iโm creating this blog to give some reference on how much snow has fallen SINCE this reportโฆthe result is pure craziness for the end of January when compared to the last few years. The Top 3 Longest Ski Seasons in Lake Tahoe: Itโs not often these days that you get to ski in the month of May in Lake Tahoe. The last few years, especially once the winter storms abate, have shown thin snow packs come spring. But after an epic season last year, folks had the pleasure of skiing and riding at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Resort through May 30th. Thatโs […] Conditions Report DโArcy McLeish | October 20, 2016 4 Comments
Killing Some Time on KT-22 @ Squaw Just over a week ago, I was fortunate to be greeted by a foot of new, no wind, bluebird skies and one chairlift that has some of the best skiing in North America… After dropping off the two kids at Ski School, Dad in full sweaty-powday-freak-out mode, was stressed about missing those crucial first pow runs. Luckily, a delayed opening for the mountain gave me some time to relax…at the end of the KT line. Once the mountain opened, conditions were sublime all over KT-22, including The Nose, The Alternates, The Fingers, and of course, under Olympic Lady. For quality control, I stayed on the North Facing aspects to maximize my half day sans kids. Casey Cane | January 23, 2016 0 Comments
Squaw Valley Report – The Mothership Has Landed! Squaw Valley’s iconic KT-22 chair opened for the season yesterday and boy was it good. The lift was scheduled to pop at 1pm, but patrol and the ops team managed to have it ready for an early start and we were riding the chair shortly after 11:30am. My heart goes out to the few people who booked 1pm private lessons […] Conditions Report Guy LaDouche | December 16, 2015 2 Comments
VIDEO: Skiing NAKED 1,000-Feet Down Chute 75 @ Squaw Valley on June 5th After spending a day hiking up Squaw Valleys infamous Shirley Canyon, we had reached High Camp and decided to continue the hike down the Mountain Run (more so due to the Cable Car being closed). Upon wandering down, a quick glimpse of what could be a ski-able Chute 75 quickly turned into an anxious emotion turned-up inside of me, ready to shred KT. The thought that you could ski top to bottom in Chute 75 [over 1,000-vertical feet] was crazy following the season […] Guest Author | June 9, 2014 2 Comments
KT-22 @ Squaw Is Closed for the Season | Conditions Report: Squaw Valley’s legendary KT-22 charilift closed for the season yesterday. Losing KT is always a hard hit and is especially so this year as the best skiing on the mountain was on KT yesterday. KT is the one place at Squaw where you can bang out laps while getting in a ton of vertical on great terrain. KT, you will be missed. Our operations teams are putting in extra effort to keep as much terrain […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | April 15, 2014 1 Comment
