Crystal Mountain Conditions Report | The King Delivers The weather gods finally delivered snow to Crystal. Over the past four days the ski area picked up nearly 12” of snow. Not a lot over four days (for Washington), but this year that makes up nearly 7% of the total snowfall. Conditions and coverage up high have remained fairly good for the past few weeks, surviving the June-uary warmup that baked the snowpack. The new snow was all […] Conditions Report Chaz Diamond | February 28, 2015 0 Comments
Crystal Mountain Conditions Report | Slush Crushing The string of unseasonably warm weather continues in the Pacific North West. This week of warm dry weather was a welcome relief after the past few weeks that brought a mixed bag of rain and snow, and had riders in the Cascades holding their collective breath, hoping for the best. If January is the new June, February is looking like the new July. The forecast for clear skies with a high of 41. Even as the low tide year drags on, its damn hard to be upset when you get your a healthy dose of Vitamin D and Vitamin R (Rainier, the mountain With the dose of Vitamin D and Vitamin R today, the mood on the mountain was super positive. Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Big Mountain Park Skiing Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina has a chairlift called Nubes. It’s a high speed quad that rises 2,000-feet to the top of the mountain. It accesses steep, jagged terrain, cliff hucks, cruisy groomers, wide open bowls, natural halfpipes, and the terrain park. Nubes would be a solid chair anywhere. Nubes is the key to days like today. Like Tahoe, Bariloche experiences mid-winter springtimes. If you embrace them, they’re […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 21, 2014 0 Comments
Portillo, Chile Conditions Report & Photo Tour: I skied Portillo from July 26 to August 1. Sorry for the late posting, but the moral of the story remains the same: book your flight to Santiago. Although this isnโt the best season for snow at Portillo, with parts of Chile in a drought, the conditions were awesome. The hotel is world class, as are the staff and ski instructors, who I believe are some of the best ski instructors from all over the world, gathered in one place. Maybe itโs all the orange signs in front of Andarivel Roca […] Conditions Report Guest Author | August 6, 2014 0 Comments
Las Lenas, Argentina Conditions Report: Working for Powder I was a bit shocked when i arrived at Las Leรฑas, I have never seen so little snow here in the past 6 years. But my friends soon assured my that up high there was still good powder to be found (Torreciallas, Entre Rios etc.). Not sure that i wanted to commit to a season pass on my first day two of my friends and me decided to go touring at lower elevation on the other side of the valley not using any lifts. There is a very sheltered area mostly south facing called la Oficina that usually holds […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | July 28, 2014 0 Comments
Europe’s Alaska = Lyngen Alps, Norway |Trip Report: The dark horse continues to make things difficult at best. The only reliable factor is Murphy’s Law. Things that won’t happen, can. Winter came back briefly, with a vengeance. Cold snapped at joints, frosted hair on the uphill, took toes as payment for powder snow. Hungry sharks hid amongst decent turns. It wasn’t long before P-tex was […] Zach Paley | April 16, 2014 0 Comments
Sleeper Pow Day | Crystal Mountain Conditions Report 3/28/14 What is hot pow? The best answer we could come up with was ‘something like cheese on yesterday’s pizza after it’s been micro-waved for too long.’ Doesn’t sound fun. With temperatures hovering just below freezing for the past few days, we heard Crystal was getting the goods, but who actually knew. Maybe it rained to 6000′, maybe it was pow? You don’t know unless you go, so we went. Arriving at the Crystal Parking lot to find snow in the trees was a awesome and set […] Conditions Report Chaz Diamond | March 29, 2014 0 Comments
Blower Dust on Crust @ Alta, UT | Conditions Report, Photo Tour Even as the snow started falling in Tahoe, I made my way east to Utah to continue in my search of snow, and I was not disappointed in any way today at Alta. The snow started out slow this morning, a dusting on some very firm snow. However, by noon the snowfall rate increased, as did the stoke factor. Alta was all-time today, that is for someone who has been skiing Squaw all winter, with blower […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | March 26, 2014 1 Comment
