Whistler Conditions Report: All Time April

It is safe to say that April has been the best month of the season for powder. It has been going off in Whistler for the last two weeks, with deep storms and cold temperatures compared to the rest of the winter. The alpine has been all time with new snow every couple of days, making it fresh and fun. There has been some wind with these most recent storms making some pockets super deep, while other ridges are icy and have variable snow. Crowds have been pretty small during the weekdays, and not too bad on the weekends either. This week there have been more people on the mountain and in the bars due to WSSF (World Ski and Snowboard Festival).

Blackcomb, B.C. to Close One Month Early + Whistler Powder Report:

zack carve

This past week has been a mash of snow, rain, freezing levels rising and falling, and clouds. Up high on the mountain has been the place to be for the entire season and that is still true today. Sunday was by far the best snow day we have had in a while. There was over 30 cm of fresh that day with lower freezing levels. It was snowing in the parking lots for some parts of the day which has not occurred in a hot second. It was socked in all day so people were sticking to the trees and up high near rocks for visibility.

Over the night rain continued […]

Whistler Conditions Report: Alpine Powder Returns

air

Over the last week, winter has returned in the alpine of Whistler with a solid 55cm of new snow. There has not been much opportunity to shred powder in Whistler this year, so people came up over the weekend to get after it.
On Saturday, there was about a foot of fresh on the mountain. It was finally time to get after it. We rode Spankey’s almost the entire day and had an awesome time. Some areas had windblown pockets making it feel even deep than it was. Of course this means that there were also some ridges and exposed small pitches that were really icy. The snow lower down, by the bottom of […]

Whistler Conditions Report: Refresh

Airplane turn

Winter has not had its last word yet. It seems like the March warm and dry spell has finally concluded. This last weekend we saw storms up high in the alpine dropping off about 15cm of snow. This new snow definitely made the mountain more lively and gave some life back into Whistler.
The story of this winter has been stay high up on the mountain. That is still the case now with this past storm having a freezing level of around 1600m. Snow in the alpine has been good, while tree line has had some wet snow and rain. Below this however there has just been rain, making the lower mountain mainly dirt.
