Faster and Higher in Las Leรฑas with Adri Millan This is a bit of a highlight reel from the past season in Las Leรฑas with Catalan freerider Adri Millan. It has some seriously sick lines in it – keep an eye out for Millan blasting through the choke of the Banana Couloir at approximately 1,000 miles per hour at 0:30. Only 10 months till summer skiing starts again! Lee Lyon | November 11, 2014 0 Comments
2014 South America Recap: Nevados de Chillan and Las Leรฑas ย I spent two months skiing in South America this summer, and it was fun! My trip took me to Nevados de Chillan for two weeks, Las Leรฑas for a month, and the Cordon del Plata for a week. Iโve been coming down here for nine years now, which makes me feel kind of old, but also very fortunate. The majority of these photos were taken by Moritz Morlok. Thanks Boyscout! I arrived in Santiago in the middle of August. Typically I head straight to Las Leรฑas, but things were looking a bit dry and warm there, so I decided to go south to Nevados de Chillan instead. I’ve been hearing good things about Nevados in recent years, and it seems to be the […] Backcountry Lee Lyon | October 19, 2014 3 Comments
Skiing at Over 17,000-Feet in Argentina: The Super Canaleta As the season came to a close in Las Leรฑas Argentina, Dorian Densmore, Alejo Sanchez and I decided we wanted to explore and ski something new. Here is what we got up to. Video (by Dorian) and trip report are below. Enjoy. If you’ve ever spent time in Mendoza, you’ve probably noticed some rather large, snow covered peaks not far from the city. This is the Cordon del Plata. We’ve all eyed runs from the city and dreamed about skiing up there, and decided it was finally time to do something about it. The highest peak and most enticing ski line seen from Mendoza is Cerro Plata (19,574ft), which towers more than 17,000 vertical feet above […] Climbing Lee Lyon | October 13, 2014 8 Comments
GEAR REVIEW – Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket I get cold. Whether it’s winter, summer or somewhere in between seasons, I always have some form of insulation with me. For years I had a Patagonia Nano Puff pull over and it served me well. A super compressible, windproof primaloft sweater that weighed next to nothing and could fit in even the smallest of packs, I loved the Nano. But my beef was always with the fact that it did not have a full length zipper. When the Nano Puff Jacket came out a few years ago, my old pull over was still going strong but finally, this past summer, that old rag became just that – an old rag. So I ordered myself a full zip Nano Puff Jacket form EVO. […] Gear Review DโArcy McLeish | January 7, 2014 0 Comments
Winter is Coming… Whistler saw its first snowfall over the weekend. And this morning, as the sun finally makes an appearance after a week of classic coastal weather, a thin blanket of snow will cover the Peak. Winter is coming, and with that comes the opportunity to awaken our obsession with snow. Iโm not sure how I feel about that, but then I have the jaded view of a ski patroller who spends six months a year in his ski boots […] DโArcy McLeish | September 24, 2013 3 Comments
