9,943-foot Tioga Pass (hwy 120), 9,623-foot Sonora Pass (hwy 108), and 8,314-foot Monitor Pass (hwy 89) are all currently closed in northern California due to snow.  The high country of California saw 12-24″ inches of snow in the past 24 hours and that was enough to close these mountain passes.  They’ve all been closed since yesterday morning. Sonora Pass, CA is CLOSED Due to Snow Today

Yep, 9,643-foot Sonora Pass in California is closed today due to snow on the road. A storm came through last night that was forecast to drop up to 6″ of new snow in the southern sierra but we didn’t realize it would snow so much this far north. Winter is coming! “SR108 Sonora Pass is CLOSED as of 02:30AM Sunday, October 4th 2015, Due to Snow. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and please be prepared for (early) Winter Driving Conditions.” – Ca lTrans

NOAA: Snow For California Today & Tomorrow

California is forecast to receive snow today at elevations above 9,000-feet today and tomorrow. This likely means snow for all the high mountain passes in California including Tioga Pass, Sonora Pass, and even the Mt. Rose Pass in Lake Tahoe, NV. Lets get this El Nino winter started!
