Trip Report: 16 Days Chasing Patagonian Powder by Van, Part 2 My alarm sounds and I turn over quickly in my sleeping bag to silence its painful noise. I’ve already been awake, wiping the dripping moisture from our ceiling off my nose, forehand and face. It’s warm and raining outside. The inside of the van is like a small, white, igloo. Its cold and it takes everything I have to climb out of my ancient, green, hand-me-down, Argentinian sleeping bag, hop into the front seat of the van and turn on the engine. She rumbles briefly as I turn the key, […] Featured Article TJ David | August 31, 2015 0 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: A Week of Storms It’s been a wild week at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina. It stormed every day this week with some storm days bringing so much wind that the ski resort was unable to open. All those stormed dropped plenty of snow up high. Around 6-feet of snow has fallen in the past week on the upper elevations of Catedral. Visibility has been tough this week, but if you were willing to work for it, there were some great turns to be had. They were even able to the Nubes chair open a time or two this week. The snow was mostly good up high with a few days of uber dense, wet […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | August 30, 2015 1 Comment
Valle Nevado, Chile Snow Update: No New Snow in 2 Weeks This means either you ski the most recently groomed run possible, or go looking for bits of off piste like lower slopes that aren’t too hacked up and get warm enough to soften, or those snaking drift lines at higher altitudes where the wind packs the snow smooth and chalky. I skied Valle Nevado from La Parva yesterday and had a fun day in spite of a lack of grooming (which makes a big difference). While I try to avoid bashing ski areas, some constructive criticism is needed. VN has […] Conditions Report Guest Author | August 28, 2015 1 Comment

Video Proof of the Insane Powder in Chile This August: This is the movie that won the Veho Film Festival in Chile this August. Chile had one helluva August with a monster storm coming in and dropping over 50″ in spots. These boys were poised and ready to get after all this pow and they did so on some pretty incredible terrain. These lines all look fun, inviting, and rippable – especially in the bright sunshine. VIDEO: One Sick Run in Chile with Ian McIntosh Ian McIntosh was just in Portillo, Chile skiing with Sage Cattabriga-Alosa for Warren Miller Entertainment. It was a quick trip and he’s already home, but the damage was done. This run was one of many solid lines Mac skied while in town. “Almost home and back to summer but here’s another one from Chile. Just good clean fun, blue skies and gorgeous pow.” – Ian McIntosh SnowBrains | August 22, 2015 0 Comments
Portillo, Chile Conditions Report: Big, Nasty Terrain Although the powder was skied off all the nooks and crannies for our day trip on Monday, Portillo certainly has a nice base, and the weather was unbeatable. Sunny and warmish, it was great cruising the groomers and the Va et Vient lifts were fun as always. Tio Bob’s still serves up great burgers, camarones al pilpil and the beer is cold. Perfect day! The sun was hitting hard and some powdery avalanches were bringing down the prior weeks snowfalls. Here the Roca Jack with a couple of snow waterfalls on the slopes beyond: Conditions Report Guest Author | August 21, 2015 0 Comments
