Lake Tahoe Backcountry Report: Spine-Line Magic in Blower Powder on Xmas Eve…

Report from December 24th, 2019 Brought to you by Alpenglow Expeditions Christmas Eve was pure magic in Tahoe. It was our best day of the season so far. We skied an incredible spine in nearly perfect conditions. Then a terrific tree run. Then another wildly fun spine line. The whole day was special. Golden solstice light, blower powder, blue skies, cold […]

VIDEO: What It Looks Like to Ski a Spine Pillow in Japan

One of the magical aspects of japan is that some of the spines here grow pillows. They’re difficult to figure out to ride and I still haven’t perfectly greased one of these spicier ones yet, but it’s insanely fun figuring them out. They change hugely from year to year. This year, the upper pillows are three times bigger than they were last year. I cut the first two pillows out of the video as they have no flow. Just two 10 to 15-foot acid drops to uphill landings. Still damn fun, though. […]

One Week in Japan | Photo Tour:

The "Adventure Zone", Japan. photo: snowbrains

These four photos represent last week in Japan. It’s been snowing like crazy with more snow on the ground before New Years Day 2015 than we had here all of last season. We had three weeks of horribly deep snow and then it rained and got cold… Damn. But it was insane while it lasted and it’ll come around soon. The forecast for the next week is surprisingly dry for Japan in January. Hopefully they’re wrong and we get right back into what you see here. […]
