4-12″ of Snow for California Today/Tomorrow | Winter Storm Warning Issued

A Gulf of Alaska storm has dropped down from Alaska, picked up moisture off the Pacific Ocean, and is headed straight for California today and tomorrow. This storm is forecast to drop 4″ below 7,000′, 4-8″ of snow above 7,000′, and up to a foot along the crest. Snow levels will be as low as 5,500′ and as high as 7,000′. Lake Tahoe Ski Resort Snow Totals: Up to 24″ of New Snow!

Lake Tahoe received it’s 2nd solid winter storm in 3 days yesterday. The first storm dropped up to 8″ on the west side of the lake. Yesterdays storm dropped up to 2-feet of snow at Kirkwood. This storm is showing up very very late, but we’ll take it. Squaw has now broken 200″ of snowfall for the 2014/15 winter season. That adds up to about 44% of their average of 450″. All this new snowfall was enough for Squaw to extend their season another week to April 19th.

6-24″ of Snow for Tahoe Tomorrow

Lake Tahoe just got 4-8″ of snow yesterday. NOAA is now forecasting another 1-2 feet of snow for Tuesday and Wednesday morning. They’re saying 6-12″ above 4,000-feet and 1-2 feet of snow on the higher peaks. This is one of our biggest storms of the year and it’s happening very late after much of our base has melted away and many of our ski resorts have closed. Squaw/Alpine Update: Today Was Good, Tomorrow Will Be Better

Squaw and Alpine reported 4″ of new snow overnight. It snowed lightly throughout the day and maybe gave us another inch. Maybe not. Alpine had Summit chair and Hot Wheels open. Summit was skiing great with fun pockets of 4-6″ deep powder in spots. You could ski everything and everything was fun. There were icy mogul heads sticking out here and there and you had to watch for ice, but overall, Summmit skied great. The weather stayed cloudy, stormy, and windy all day. Lake Tahoe Storm Snow Totals & Photo Tour:

We can hear avalanche bombs from our house in Tahoe City. Not a bad sign. It’s also very windy in Tahoe City this morning. NOAA is reporting 40mph winds at the top of Squaw with gusts to 60mph and a temperature of 22ยบF as of 7am. We’re hoping it’s not enough wind to shut down Squaw’s upper lifts, but it just might be… Snow showers, mainly before 11am. High near 41.
