Snowpack Depth Across Western USA | May 12, 2014 This is an image of snowpack depth in the western USA as of May 12th, 2015. The snowpack is deepest in northern Washington, northern Idaho, northern Montana, and northern Wyoming. The California snowpack is nearly non-existent. What’s really interesting about the above image is that nearly all of the snowpack in the west is in Idaho. Central Idaho is nearly inaccessible, rugged, burly mountains. No ski resorts, no roads, no towns, no nothing. Just wilderness. 100% of Western US Snowpack = Below Average There were times throughout this winter when Idaho, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming held above average snowpacks but now, all of the Western US is experiencing below average snowpacks. Some locations are really hurting in the snowpack department. This map is showing Lake Tahoe at 2% of average, the Wasatch UT at 37%, Central Oregon at 10%, Northern Washington at 5%. The best snowpacks in the Western US’s ski country appear to be in western Wyoming and western Montana. Who’s Got Snow? | Graph of Western Snowpack Right Now It’s been a wild year in the West winter. The Pacific Northwest has been enduring torrential rain, California is going through a historical drought, Utah is below average, while Wyoming, Idaho and Montana having been getting tons of snow. Colorado is a mixed bag so far this year with most of the state seeing below average snowpacks.
