Time-Lapse: Lenticular Clouds Over Mono Lake, CA on Saturday | 13 Seconds of Awe

SnowBrains |

This past weekend, some of the SnowBrains crew hit the Mammoth area for some skiing and hot springing.  We experienced and saw so many things that blew us away:  steaming pools, 14,000-foot peaks, a full moon illuminating the edge of huge lenticular clouds, Sonora Pass, falling snow, emerald lakes, smooth rivers, and Mono Lake.

Admittedly, we didn’t see this show over Mono lake.  But we’re very grateful Jeff Sullivan caught it on camera for us all.

“The winds streaming over the Sierra Nevada last night [May 26th, 2013] had just the right moisture content and temperature to create large lenticular clouds, stretching for miles in the Eastern Sierra. I experienced the winds while on a day hike at 10,000 feet up by Tioga Pass. After the hike when I arrived down by Mono Lake the setting sun was turning the clouds shades of orange.”Jeff Sullivan
