U.S. ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin shared her visit to the crash site at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on her social media account. The American skier went to the resort in the Dolomites with retired ski racer Tina Maze. Slovenian Maze is one of the most successful ski racers in the world, who like Shiffrin competed across all alpine disciplines. She is a two-time Olympic Gold medallist and two-time World Champion in Downhill and Giant Slalom.

“What a funny thing to return to the scene of the crash, and feel totally at peace while freeskiing right past it. We live, we crash, we learn, we grow, and hopefully don’t allow fear to dictate how we experience the things we love to do. Let it be no more, and no less than what it really is-a part of the process.

@tinamaze83 thank you for showing us a side of @cortinadolomiti that we don’t usually see at the races. I think I’ll be back again, and next time I’m paying for lunch🤣”

Shiffrin had crashed on the Downhill course Trofana di Olympia in Cortina in January this year, overstretching a tendon in her knee, which forced her to pause for 44 days in the middle of the FIS World Cup. Shiffrin returned to ski racing two weeks ago in Ă…re, Sweden, where the American skier won the Slalom race. A week later, Shiffrin competed in the Slalom at the World Cup Finals in Saalbach, Austria, where she claimed another victory as well as the 23/24 season Slalom Crystal Globe.
