The terrain here is hard to understand.

It’s so big.

It’s too big.

It’s supernatural.

It’s face-melting.

I think these photos show this.

On Saturday I flew out with a specialty crew on an evening mission with Pulseline Adventure.

The goal was to find good snow on big terrain.

We flew out to the Schwan Glacier hoping to get on something scary like “Hourglass” but the snow did not cooperate.

We came back closer to home and hit a zone I hit here 2 seasons ago called “The White Room”.

This ridgeline is steep, spiney, and intimidating.

Most of the Chugach Range was holding variable snow on this day, but luckily, The White Room had experienced some good old Chugach Magic and was holding recrystallized powder snow (Alaskan Velvet).

I dropped thrid and bumped out skier’s right for a fresh line.

The little line I’d chosen was all much bigger and more spaced out than anticipated.

Alaska is large it makes things appear small from afar.

There’s just no scale here…

The Alaska Effect had come into play (where huge features appear small because everything is large and there is no scale, no trees, no comparisons).

The snow was delectable and I carved my way down the responsive powder continually jogging right to the next feature and the next.

We jumped back in the ship and got one more run in before the light left the zone and pilot was no longer comfortable landing the zone.

Such a special day to come up with good skiing in awesome terrain over a week since the last snowfall.
