More than a dozen skis and snowboards worth $17,000 thatย were stolen from multiple locations at Fernie Alpine Resort, BC over the weekend have been recovered by police and should soon be returned to their rightful owners.

“The items that were stolen include skis, ski poles, bindings, and I believeย up to three snowboards were stolen from the ski hill,” says Constable Debra Katerenchuk. “As to a total amount at this time of skis, roughly, I’d say 12 to 13 skis.”

With the cooperation of Strathmore RCMP in Alberta, two youths were arrested and charged with theft.ย The youths had allegedly posted these items for sale on Kijiji. Katerenchuk was not able to say if the youths were from Strathmore or where specifically the items were found.

Three snowboards and ten pairs of skis were recovered. The investigation actively continues as some of the skis and snowboards have not yet been recovered.

Officials advised there are a few things that can be done to help prevent these kinds of thefts:

Yeah, just rent a season locker, or walk all the way out to your car every time you stop in the lodge for a quick break. Right! Common sense.

If youโ€™re really worried, maybe just buy an appropriate lock? It may not be common sense, but at least it actually makes sense. Im glad at least some of the equipment was recovered.
