Las Leñas ski resort in Argentina is reporting that they got 60 inches of snow on Wednesday, August 7th, 2013. Locals are calling it 100 inches. Regardless, it’s a lot of snow. Las Leñas is one of the best ski resorts on Earth with fresh snow and the Marte open. Today, the Marte opened. Our good buddy, Matthias has been in Leñas all season and here’s what he had to say about today:
“Las Lenas got hit by a massive storm. One meter in the valley and 2.5 meter sup high within 30 hours turned this place from a depressing moon landscape into the best place in the world. First day after the storm the upper mountain was closed so we could track out cenedor and vulcano area all day as a nice warmup for the following big day.
Today, Marte finally opened and those who have been to Lenas understand what a Marte day with more than 2 meters of pow means. Simply madness!!! Fresh lines all day, no competition… simply the best you can get out of a chair in the world. Those are the days you’ll remember for the rest of your life, that keep us coming back year after year, even if it contains a lot of waiting and suffering. Plus: there is another storm coming up on Sunday, so it seems like after a terrible July, we finally get the goods..” – Matthias Weichselbaumer, August 9th, 2013
The forecast for Las Leñas shows another big storm this weekend. Get to Leñas now if you can. There will likely be one more good Marte day before a big heat wave sets in. Even tomorrow is forecast to be 12C (53F) at the Las Leñas base. They are forecasting temps up to 60F by Wednesday…
