According to the Stowe Today, Rumors are circulating throughout Stowe, VT that Vail is looking to purchase Stowe Mountain Resort. This purchase would make Stowe Vail’s 14th ski resort. A purchase was apparently made sometime between Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. Vail is expected to make an announcement about the acquisition relatively soon, but it’s hard to say exactly when. If the announcement is made, AIG’s 75 year ownership would come to an end.

It has been confirmed that Vail’s President was here this weekend and with their recent acquisitions in areas such as Wisconsin and British Columbia, it wouldn’t be strange for them to move out East. Stowe would be the perfect acquisition for Vail as the resort is easily accessible from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and many other cities. There were also rumors circulating that Vail was looking to acquire Smugglers’ Notch, but that was quickly shot down by the Resort.

If you were to walk around Stowe Mountain Resort and ask employees if the rumor was true, none of them would confirm it, but none of them would deny it. Currently, it costs about $1,700 for a Stowe Season Pass, but if Vail were to acquire them and add the resort to the Epic Pass, we would say that the cost would likely drop to somewhere around $900, which is a lot more appealing. This purchase would definitely bring a lot more skier traffic to the East Coast Resort.
