US Ski Team star skier Ted Ligety, 31, tore his ACL while Giant Slalom training in Europe today.

Ted didn’t compete the World Cup slalom classic in Schladming, Austria on Tuesday but he was expected to race this weekend in Germany.

“We all know ski racing is a dangerous sport but I always thought I could avoid a season ender. Unfortunately today I tore my ACL GS training and am heading home” – Ted Ligety via Facebook today

A torn ACL requires surgery and recovery from said surgery takes 6-8+ months depending on the extent of the damage to the knee.

Ted Ligety has been a perennial start on the US Ski Team and has won:

  • 2 Olympic Gold Medals
  • 5 World Championship Gold Medals
