I’ve dreamed of skiing this line for many years – “Dirty Needle”.  I’ve seen it from the air a couple of times and the thing is simply buck wild.

I spent a month in Haines this past April and there was talk and a photo of a guy who skied it hard.  I didn’t understand the line, I just wanted to ski it.  I imagined it to be smooth, straightforward, and high voltage.

After watching this video, I might have to reconsider…  I don’t know if I want to ski this line anymore…  Well, that’s a lie.  But I sure as hell don’t think I would ski as fast as Tobi Tritscher does in this video….

The guy is flying.  Any turn or spine exchange throws him in the air.  Dropping, not jumping.  Falling straight down, but not hitting the ground due to the steepness of the line and the lack of available real estate.

This line is steep, complex, a navigational hazard, and full of air.  Hats off to you, Tobi.  That is how a you ski a big boy line.
