A few friends and I made it down to the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, CA today.

The place is stunning.  Water everywhere.

The skiing was good on north and east aspects.  South and west facing snow was cooked and/or cooked and refrozen.

It was all about the views today.  We got a bit skunked on the light, but still had a blast.

I watched in disbelief as the Miss Dixie “Icebreaker” ripped through the ice to the entrance of Emerald Bay.  We then listened to her grind against the ice around Fannette island.  Simply unreal and gorgeous to watch.

Super hot hiking up in the sun.  Quite cold up top after the sun went away and the wind kicked up.

There is still absolutely spectacular snow on shadowy aspects.

Tahoe is on fire right now.

PLEASE never go into the backcountry with the proper avalanche education, avalanche gear, and a great partner.  If you don’t know, DON’T GO.
