No stranger to receiving the most snow in North America, Alyeska Resort, Alaska, is at it again. The foot of snow it received over the weekend took the ski area past 500″ for the season. The resort has seen 509″ of fresh snow this season and has a 148″ base.
That’s an incredible total—more than most resorts will see all season. Only one other resort has even reached 400″ yet.
Alyeska has now exceeded 500″ seven times in the last few years. Last season, they reported 740″; in 2022-23 785″; in 2020-21 735″; in 2015-16 785″; in 2011-12 733″, and 2010-11 581″.
Alyeska averages 650″ of snowfall on the upper mountain and 512″ of snowfall at mid-mountain. The biggest year on record was 2012, with 978″ of snowfall.
The world record for a ski area is 1,140″ at Mt. Baker ski area, WA, in 1998-99.
