Wet Pow and Backflips, Alaska is Starting to go Off|Alyeska, AK Conditions Report With a season snowfall total of 212″, just 4″ below that of Jackson, Alyeska in Girdwood Alaska is having one of its worst seasons on record. After an unusually dry December in Alaska, January is proving to be a lot better, albeit a lot warmer, with snow, and sometimes rain in the forecast for the next week out. The Tahoe Exodus Tour | Jackson Hole, WY With the dry pattern looking like it was going to continue in Tahoe, I decided against going back home anytime soon and made my way up from Utah to Jackson with a friend to meet some friends from Tahoe. While inbounds terrain at Jackson is harboring decent snow cover, the word from the locals was that the backcountry was going off. Unfortunately for us, we had very limited time and less than desirable weather which kept us […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | January 10, 2014 0 Comments
The Tahoe Exodus Begins | First Stop: Alta, UT With the holidays wrapping up, and no change in the forecast for Tahoe, a pattern is starting to develop, the Tahoe exodus. People want to get the hell out of Tahoe, and are starting to leave in droves. I myself decided to take a little time away from Tahoe and search for real snow, so I loaded up the skis and took off to visit a friend in Alta. While Alta has a hell of a lot more snow than Squaw, it is still low tide out here. The skiing however is awesome, with chalky snow and hidden stashes of soft turns to be found. Bluebird skies, cold temperatures, and great snow made for the best two days of my season thus far, sad […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | January 7, 2014 5 Comments
A Day in the Life of a Snow Starved Ski Bum With the snow conditions in Tahoe being sub-par at best, we took it upon ourselves the other day to have fun with it. With the holiday crowds out, and the upper mountain at Squaw shut down due to stinky conditions, we pulled out the ole jeans and Salomon Force 9’s to show everyone that even with the horrible conditions and snowpack, skiing is fun no matter what. There were a lot of dirty looks, a lot of smiles, and a whole bunch of people who were indifferent, and looked at us like we fit right in with em. The moral of the story is, the conditions in Tahoe are less than desirable, and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna get a whole lot better […] Jesse Cassidy | December 31, 2013 6 Comments
Music Mondays | Brad Sucks One man bands are generally, well, mediocre at best. Brad Turcotte however is the exception to that with his one man band Brad Sucks. Taking an alternative approach to the ever evolving music industry, Brad Sucks creates a sort of electro/experimental pop, that is a great addition to any playlist. The one man band with no fans began creating music in 2001 and has created three albums thus far. Brad Sucks takes an alternative approach to the music industry as he puts all his music online for free with no copyright, giving anyone the ability to remix and tweak his music. Go ahead and give em a listen, you’ll be glad you did. […] Jesse Cassidy | December 30, 2013 0 Comments
Squaw Christmas Day Conditions Report | Video & Photo Tour I’m not gonna lie, its not pretty out there people. Conditions in Tahoe are well, bad, meager, dry, not optimal, really just place any bad adjective here and it most likely applies. However, it’s what we got, and we have to make the best of it. While the conditions are not ideal per se, the skiing is still a lot of fun believe it or not. The holiday crowd was out in full force today, and from the looks of it, most […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | December 25, 2013 2 Comments
Music Mondays | Colourmusic Some of their songs aren’t even consider music by some critics, simply just noise. And with one listen to Colourmusics latest album, My ___ Is Pink, it is easy to see why. Mixing psychedelic, hardcore, experimental, and every other sort of musical genre in the mix, Colourmusic creates a one of a kind sound that some say is an acquired taste. Colourmusic doesn’t have a particular sound or genre associated with them, they simply […] Jesse Cassidy | December 9, 2013 0 Comments
Music Mondays | Chiddy Bang It’s everyones favorite day of the week once again, but to make things better we have snow in the forecast for much of the country, and some music that we here at Snowbrains would like to share with you. This week we think a hip-hop group by the name of Chiddy Bang belongs on that riding playlist we’ve all been working on for the […] Jesse Cassidy | December 2, 2013 0 Comments
