Originally a secret area in the woods of Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT, the Bone Zone was a park created in the early season by skiers and riders who wanted to shred before resorts opened. Its success was ultimately its downfall, as increased traffic in the area alerted the police and forest authorities to its existence, who promptly shut it down.
The Bone Zone reopened in 2015 at Brighton Resort. Located in the Explorer beginner area, the park features both natural and manmade features.
- Closed last year: Brighton Resort, UT Announces There Will be No ‘Bone Zone’ This Year
The Bone Zone did not open in 2020 due to the pandemic, reopening last season. In a statement on its social media, Brighton announced “In order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines and keep our team safe and healthy, the Bone Zone will be closed until the 2021/2022 pre-season. We know how much the Bone Zone means to the snowboard and ski community and we will miss all the smiles it provides this year. Thank you for your patience and understanding, we’re gearing up for an amazing 20/21 ski season and we’re excited to see you up here on opening day.
