Pulled a fast one there, didn’t ya bud?

Solitude Mountain Resort in Northern Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon was going to be the first mountain open in the Wasatch with its 2 pm opening today but then Brighton surprised everyone and opened at 11 am. Brighton was originally planning to open on Friday, but the resort just managed to sneak ahead of Solitude and get its chairs running as the first in the Wasatch.

Brighton shared in an Instagram post:

WE ARE OPEN TO PASSHOLDERS AT 11 AM TODAY! Did you actually think we weren’t going to do a soft opening? Season Passholders, Go Card Owners and Ikon Passholders can come up and ride today. Majestic and Explorer will be spinning til 4 pm. The Alpine Rose, Blind Miner and Molly Greens will be open too. We can’t wait to see all of our Passholders today and everyone for our official opening day tomorrow.

Two chairs are open today at Brighton for passholders only, which is what they call a ‘soft opening’. Tomorrow, day ticket sales will be available at Brighton as the resort fully opens.

Brighton and Solitude’s openings today come after a three-foot snowstorm slammed the Wasatch this week, doubling the range’s snowpack.

Looks like winter is off to a fantastic start in Northern Utah.
