Of course, everyone has heard about these magical CBD creams and additives, but what’s the science behind it and how can it improve your ski life?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many chemical compounds in the hemp plant. CBD is commonly misunderstood because it comes from the same plant that contains THC, which contains psychoactive properties. When CBD is extracted there are no psychoactive effects as there is only about .3% THC.

Although unsure of its potential, doctors have found CBD to help relieve many ailments. From relieving muscle/joint pain, anxiety, and even arthritis. Many winter enthusiasts will encounter these symptoms often. Using CBD can help relieve these little aches and pains. CBD has all of these positive effects because it reacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD impacts this system’s receptors and starts to heal the ECS which controls sleep, appetite, pain, and immune system response.

With this being said, skiers and boarders often find relief in CBD when used correctly and have researched what they are consuming. Since the 2018 Farm Act was passed, the market and knowledge of it have expanded tenfold. Currently, skiers and boarders have a plethora of options, whether it be directly applied salves, inhalants, edibles, or capsules for achieving your level of relief. Although widely accepted now, consumers should always check the source and ingredients in all products and even consult your physician if necessary.
