In 2002, Salt Lake City, UT, hosted the Winter Olympics, the fourth and last in the United States. During the games, Deer Valley was a key venue, hosting freestyle skiing and alpine ski racing competitions. The resort would be expected to again take on a significant role in any upcoming games, if Salt Lake decides to host another future Olympic Winter Games.

Deer Valley is once again in the spotlight after Salt Lake City received the official endorsement from the U.S. Olympic Committee as the bid city for an upcoming Winter Olympics. While the U.S. is still open to other possible locations, the preference is leaning toward hosting the Winter Games in 2034.

The Resort is currently under a series of expansions which would add an additional 3,700 skiable acres (which would bring the total acreage to a whopping 5,726 acres), 16 new chairlifts, a 10-passenger gondola, and a new base village for the 2025-2026 ski season. The new base village will add over 800 hotel rooms, 1,700 condo/apartment units, and 250,000 square feet of retail space. The expansion will also add 68,000 square feet of recreational space within the new town. Todd Bennett, the president, and COO of Deer Valley Resort said, “This expansion will facilitate even better access to the resort for our guests while offering a substantial increase in world-class amenities consistent with the resort’s original vision.” Deer Valley seems to be making the right moves to attract another Winter Olympics by constantly upgrading its ski and resort experience.
