In this video, meteorologist Chris Tomer provides his winter and snowfall forecast for 2023-2024. He predicts a strong El Niรฑo for at least one month, with a possible 30% or higher contribution from the El Niรฑo Modoki. Tomer expects a dominant subtropical jet stream from January to May, along with warm ocean temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic, bringing a high possibility of atmospheric rivers.

He mentions several ski resorts that could receive up to 130% normal snowfall, including, Mammoth, Tahoe, Brian Head, and Wolf Creek.ย Taos and Angel Fire in New Mexico could see up to 125% of normal, and Telluride, Purgatory, Crested Butte, Monarch, Loveland, A-Basin and Winter Park could all see 110-115% normal snowfall.

On the flip side, the PNW and northern Rockies could see below average snowfall.

Tomer also discusses sea surface temperature anomalies and how they align with past strong El Niรฑo years, suggesting that this winter could be a significant El Niรฑo event.
