It is with a heavy heart and immense respect for Dr. Robb Gaffney—a local legend in the Lake Tahoe skiing community, author of the revered book ‘Squallywood,’ and co-creator of the beloved game of G.N.A.R.—that we share the terrible news of his passing. His brother, Scott Gaffney, shared the news on Instagram with the comment “One of one.”

Professional skiers and names from the industry have flooded the post with comments of love and respect. From a personal point of view, Robb Gaffney was one of the most beautiful skiers we every skied with. He will be missed.

“He’s still the best skier on this mountain ♥️ we love you Robb”

– Connery Lundin

“Oh I’m so sorry to hear. He truly was one of a kind and made the world infinitely better. So much love to you and your family Scott.”

– Ingrid Backstrom

“Robb and Shane are laughing so hard right now. What a legend! ❤️”

– Mike Douglas

Since his diagnosis in 2019, Robb has shown great courage and resilience, initially responding well to bone marrow stem-cell transplants and monthly treatments. Regrettably, recent developments took a turn for the worse, disrupting the positive progression he had been experiencing. He passed away yesterday, September 22nd, 2023.

While the Gaffney family was initially reluctant to seek financial assistance, Lou McGee, a close acquaintance of Robb’s spouse, established a GoFundMe campaign to provide aid.

Our thoughts are with Robb’s friends and family at this difficult time.
