A new event was supposed to be premiered this season at the 23/24 FIS Alpine World Cup. The ‘Team-Combination’ was supposed to be a team event, where a speed skier and a technical skier would compete in a Downhill and Slalom race respectively, and the combined results would determine the winning team. The event was supposed to premiere this season but has now been scrapped after, amongst others, criticizm from the athletes.

Athletes would have shared any FIS points earned 50/50 and they would have been credited to their respective disciplines. However, athletes from smaller nations, such as former American skier A.J. Ginnis, who now skis for Greece, would have been disadvantaged as he has no teammate to compete with. This would make it impossible for the athletes without another team member to earn FIS points from this additional event and affect their FIS ranking.

The canceled events will now be replaced with additional Downhill events. The World Cup in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, from February 16-18 will now consist of two Downhill and a Super-G event for the women while the World Cup in Kitzbühel, Austria, will now have two Downhill races for the men.
