The National Park Service says his progress along the Pacific Crest Trail had been delayed by storms at high elevations of the Sierra Nevada. His family reported him overdue on May 25. He had last called them from atop Mount Whitney, about 145 miles south of Devils Postpile.

The trail runs through California, Oregon, and Washington.
