Due to rapidly melting snow, Killington Resort, VT will be limiting opening hours on their final day of the season, Saturday, spinning the Superstar from 9 am to 12 pm instead of 5 pm. The resort is determined to keep its promise of skiing in June.

Despite the heroic efforts of mountain crews to patch things up, snow coverage is shrinking daily, and closing day “won’t be an experience for everyone, with walking required down Superstar Headwall, between patches, and both onto and off of the lift, which will require skill navigating steep, rocky patches with gear in hand.” The day will not be for the faint of heart, Killington saying “with how little snow remains though, we will not be able to groom, so conditions will be ‘As Is.'”

2022 is the latest closing date at the resort since 1997, cementing its title as ‘Longest Season in the East.’ Non-passholders can ski for free if they donate $25 to Pride Center Vermont.

Killington is the only US ski resort still open for skiers and riders in the east. It has been open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, spinning the Superstar Express Quad until 5:00 pm.

We are determined to offer June skiing and snowboarding this year, but Mother Nature seems a little less enthusiastic. After some warm nights and rain this week, coverage on the Superstar Glacier is looking a bit browner than we’d hoped. We want to keep our promise and enable you to check “ski/snowboard” in June off your to do list, so we will spin the Superstar Express quad for at least a few hours, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. With how little snow remains though, we might not be able to groom, so conditions will be “As Is.” Needless to say, the experience is not going to be for everyone, as it will require skill negotiating steep, rocky patches with gear in hand. We recommended looking at the webcam before you make the trip.

For those who brave the muddy steeps, commemorative tie-dyed T-shirts will be available while supplies last. Non passholders who are expert skiers or riders are invited to join us for a $25 donation to Pride Center VT. Saturday, June 4 will be our final day for the 2021/22 season – still the latest we’ve skied in 25 years – and then we’ll switch to 100% summer mode.

Please be considerate while parking in the K-1 lot. We must maintain access for fire and other safety vehicles at all times, so please do your part by obeying signs, not double parking, resisting the urge to move cones and otherwise being a responsible driver.

Late season conditions are suitable for expert skiers and riders only.

Saturday will be the 192nd day of operation at the ‘Beast of the East.’ The resort has seen 216″ of fresh snow this season.  The Bike Park opened Saturday, May 28.
