Killington Resort in Vermont just announced it will open on Friday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m. for pass holders and be the first major ski resort in the East to open this season. Killington is traditionally the first ski resort to open each season in the East and that is due to its geographical location in the Northeast and its incredible snowmaking capabilities. “The Beast in the East” usually opens in mid-November but has opened in the past in October when Mother Nature has been gracious. The push to be the first to open not only in the East but in the country is magnified by the Stifel World Cup that is hosted by Killington during the Thanksgiving Weekend. It attracts the largest crowds of any women’s race in the world and normally attracts 20-30 thousand spectators throughout the event. Conditions must be approved by the Federation of International Skiing (FIS) before the races can commence.

In a press release Killington posted on social media, the resort wrote:

Hooray! The Beast will officially be kicking off the 2023-24 winter season Friday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. with a passholder appreciation day!  After opening day, the K-1 Express Gondola will spin from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (last ride up at 3:00 p.m.) and North Ridge Quad will spin from 9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. every day. We’ll use the Peak Walkway to get to and from the North Ridge Area for skiing and snowboarding – yes walking is required. All skiers and riders will download the K-1 Gondola at the end of the day.  Skiing and snowboarding will be on advanced terrain only, with a Woodward Mountain Park in the North Ridge area on Reason.

This year in lieu of an opening day gift we are giving our day one guests the opportunity to make a $10 donation to one of three charities in their honor, Burton Chill, Yes Kids and The Snow Angel Foundation. The team carefully selected these charities that support our snow sports community and align with our Play Forever initiatives. We know guests look forward to the opening day gift but hope you’ll see this gesture as a positive way to give back.

We’ve also been busy making snow on Superstar from top to bottom in anticipation for the Stifel Killington Cup.
