Lee Canyon Resort, Nevada, will see some major upgrades this winter. Located less than an hour from Las Vegas, the ski resort recently announced a $7 million capital project for the next winter season. The project includes adding 450 parking spaces and two new lifts catered to beginner skiers.

The new project is a result of the resort’s increasing number of novice skiers and riders. According to General Manager Dan Hoover, “Lee Canyon is seeing more visitors, first-time and youth skiers, and snowboarders…especially families whose kids are skiing free with our Power Kids pass.” He says that “these investments mean we can better serve the needs of those populations,” and make Lee Canyon even more beginner-friendly.

A new quad chair is the highlight of Lee Canyon’s upgrades. Nicknamed “Ponderosa,” the lift will connect three runs typically used by beginners to progress to intermediate terrain. A new 500′ surface lift named “Sunkid” will also accompany the new chair. Hoover believes that these improvements “will allow guests to access popular trails more easily, while skiers/riders will be disbursed throughout the property.” In addition to the lifts, the resort plans to construct 450 new parking lots near the Rabbit Peak area for easier access to families.

The upgrades are one of many undertaken by Lee Canyon in recent years. Last year, the resort debuted a mountain bike park as part of its summer operations. It also opened a new, 10,000-square-foot lodge at the base in 2020. More recently, however, the resort was purchased by Utah-based Mountain Capital a few months ago. The move gives Lee Canyon pass holders some extra perks, like days at other U.S. Power Pass resorts and additional discounts. These changes seem to set Lee Canyon up for a long and bright future as Vegas’ skiing hub.
