Lookout Pass Ski is set to welcome skiers and snowboarders this weekend, marking an early start to its 90th winter season. In a social media post yesterday, the Idaho-Montana border resort announced it will open limited terrain on Friday, November 8, becoming the first ski area in the region to fire up its lifts.

Friday’s opening will see Chair 1 running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lift tickets priced at $30 for adults, military, and college students and $25 for youth and seniors. The weekend will bring expanded operations, with Chairs 1 and 5 operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend lift tickets will cost $47 for adults, military, and college students and $35 for youth and seniors.

Skiers and riders should be prepared for early season conditions. The resort warns that bare spots, thin areas, and obstacles may exist. Chair 4 will not be in operation, and the mountain will be closed Monday through Thursday, with plans to reopen the following Friday.

The early opening is partly due to extensive summer trail maintenance and slope preparation. These improvements allow the mountain to open with less snow than in previous years.

As of Wednesday, Lookout Pass reported 18 inches of snow at the base and 36 inches at the summit. Sunny weather is expected for the next few days, with a storm system forecast to move in over the weekend.

Lookout Pass, which opened in 1935, is the oldest ski area in Idaho. Known for its abundant snowfall, the resort averages about 450 inches of snow annually.

As the season kicks off, the resort is also offering guests the opportunity to purchase season passes at various locations. Pass sales events are scheduled for November 7 at the University of Idaho in Moscow and HyperSpud Sports and November 9 at Riverfront Square in Spokane.
