Los Angeles, CA closed all beached due to the Coronavirus crisis today.

This closure is effective immediately and will continue until April 19th, 2020.

This closure comes on the heels of last weekend’s overly busy beaches where social distancing was not observed.

“The crowds we saw at our beaches last weekend were unacceptable.  In order to save lives, beaches in LA County will be temporarily closed. I understand that this is a huge sacrifice for everyone who enjoys going to our beaches. But we cannot risk another sunny weekend with crowds at the beach spreading this virus. This closure is temporary and we can always reopen these beaches when it is safe to do so.” – LA County Supervisor 4th District, Janice Hahn

This means no more beach time nor surfing in LA.

At least one Colorado County has banned backcountry recreation and we fear that many more are to follow.

Let’s all follow these guidelines if we do go into the backcountry or if we go surfing:

LA Beach Closure Press Release:

San Pedro, CA — In an effort to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Los Angeles County will immediately close all beaches to the public, says Supervisor Janice Hahn.  An official announcement will be made this afternoon.

“The crowds we saw at our beaches last weekend were unacceptable,” said Supervisor Hahn. “In order to save lives, beaches in LA County will be temporarily closed. I understand that this is a huge sacrifice for everyone who enjoys going to our beaches. But we cannot risk another sunny weekend with crowds at the beach spreading this virus. This closure is temporary and we can always reopen these beaches when it is safe to do so.”

The public health order signed today by LA County Public Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis, is effective immediately and applies to all LA County beaches, beach bathrooms, piers, promenades, and beach bike paths. In addition it incorporates previously announced closures of public trails.
