Loveland Ski Area, CO, is hosting its third annual-ish Banked Slalom, and it is going to be all-time—nothing says springtime riding more than wiggling down a banked slalom in the slush and sunshine. 

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, snowboarders will be slashing their way down the course. All ages and abilities were welcomed to enter the much-anticipated event, which has unfortunately SOLD OUT due to the high demands for springtime fun. This makes for the perfect opportunity to watch what will be an excellent spectator day on the slopes.

Where:

The racecourse is on the west side of Ptarmigan Lift, Loveland Ski Area, Colorado.

When:

  • The race begins at 10:00 am
  • 1st run must be completed by 12:00 pm
  • 2nd run must be completed by 2:00 pm

Race age and ability classes will be split up, with prize money offered for Open Men and Women. 

  • Groms – Boys and Girls, 12 years old or younger.
  • Amateur – Men and Women, 13-17 years old.
  • Open Men – Cash Prize, all ages – $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, $250 for 3rd.
  • Open Women – Cash Prize, all ages – $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, $250 for 3rd.
  • Masters – Men and Women, 40+ years old.

After the event wraps up there will be a party on the Lower Patio at the Base of Loveland Basin featuring awards and a raffle. It is springtime after all, the fun continues after the lifts close with the longer sunny days.

Rules for the event below are from Loveland’s website, so if you are participating or spectating, you know what to look out for. 

  • Snowboarders only (sorry skiers!)
  • No refunds. If you sign up, show up.
  • Each racer gets two runs, and the best time is counted.
  • A missed gate or crash (loss of downhill momentum) will count as a DNF (Did Not Finish) and riders must exit the course.
  • Must cross the finish line on your board.
  • No replacement bibs.
  • Helmets are recommended.
  • Poaching the racecourse will result in disqualification.
  • Rude and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Drinking and drugs are prohibited.
  • Intoxicated individuals will forfeit their lift ticket or season pass and be disqualified from the race.
  • Race Officials’ decisions are final.

Those lucky enough to get a spot in the race will need to sign an online waiver before participating. For full details of the event, you can check out the Loveland website.

Spring is all about the vibes, if you are around Loveland on May 7, then join in on the fun and celebrate ski season winding down for another winter. With Loveland closing for the season on May 8, you might as well make the most of the end of the season in style.
