Last Saturday, was a powder day at Mammoth, CA. We watched it snow heavily on the mountain Friday evening on the webcams and knew that Saturday was going to be special. Before bed, we saw about 4″ of new snow on the patio furniture at mid-mountain.
We got to Mammoth early on Saturday and grabbed first chair on Chair 23rd. We weren’t disappointed. The snow was 4-5″ deep and plastered on everything. You could go fast and arc huge turns down Chair 23.
Saturday was the 5th mini-powder day in a row at Mammoth last week.
To have a powder day on May 24th was a true gift, especially in the this drought-filled season. Mammoth saw 28″ of snow in May making May the 3rd snowiest month of 2014/15 winter at Mammoth. May was snowier than January, November, and March this season.
Mammoth was incredible this May once again. Mammoth is the place to be in the month of May.
Mammoth is now closed for the season. They’ll reopen again on November 11th, 2015.
Kinda like a Miracle May. The Mtn receives snow from all directions, with typical windloading over the top. Truly, an Epic Mtn (even in a drought)! ski ya
