In response to increasing incidents of skiers and riders disregarding on-hill closures, Mammoth Mountain, California, has implemented updated penalties, effective immediately. This policy adjustment addresses safety concerns and ensures adherence to designated boundaries.

Ducking a rope closure will now result in suspending the offender’s season pass for 30 days upon the first offense. Subsequently, a second violation will revoke the season pass for the remainder of the skiing season. For holders of single or multi-day tickets, all remaining days will be forfeited upon the first offense.

⚠️ POLICY UPDATE ⚠️ Due to recent disregard for our on-hill closures, we are adjusting the penalties.

Ducking a rope closure means losing your season pass for 30 days. Doing it a second time results in losing that pass for the rest of the season. Single or multi-day ticket holders will lose all remaining days.

This behavior puts yourself, our ski patrollers, and others in extreme danger. It also prevents our team from opening terrain on a powder day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation – have fun and stay safe.

– Mammoth Mountain statement

The resort emphasizes that such behavior endangers the individuals involved and poses significant risks to ski patrollers and other guests. Moreover, it hampers the resort’s ability to efficiently manage terrain, particularly on days with optimal powder conditions.

In a statement addressing the policy update, Mammoth Mountain urged visitors to prioritize safety and cooperation. “This behavior puts yourself, our ski patrollers, and others in extreme danger. It also prevents our team from opening terrain on a powder day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation – have fun and stay safe,” the statement reads.

This stricter enforcement underscores Mammoth Mountain’s commitment to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests. Skiers and riders are reminded to respect designated boundaries and adhere to closure notices for their safety and the well-being of others on the slopes.
