Man Killed Installing Avalanche Control Equipment at Alta Ski Resort, UT Yesterday

A 41-year-old man from Price, Utah was killed yesterday in an industrial accident while installing avalanche control equipment near Alta Ski Resort, according to Unified Police Lieutenant Brian Lohrke.

Kasey Christiansen was performing contract work for the Utah Department of Transportation yesterday morning.  He was driving and excavator just out of bounds of Alta when his machine rolled around 11am.  Kasey was thrown off the excavator and the machine landed on him, according to Lt. Brian Lohrke.

“Our contractors are part of the UDOT family, and it’s heartbreaking anytime something like this happens.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to this worker’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. At UDOT, safety is our top priority. Work on the project is shut down pending an investigation.” – Utah Department of Transportation, UDOT, today
