Dr. Robb Gaffney, the locally legendary Lake Tahoe skier, author of ‘Squallywood’, and co-creator alongside Shane McConkey of the beloved game of G.N.A.R., has been battling a rare type of cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, since his diagnosis in 2019. After seeing progress from bone marrow stem-cell transplants and monthly treatments, developments late in 2022 disrupted the forward progression.

To help however possible, the Mountain Gazette, with assistance from photographer Hank de Vre and filmmaker Scott Gaffney (Robbs brother), just released four limited-edition items for sale, including an iconic poster, with all profits going directly to Robb and his family.

Of the four special items for sale, the 24”x36” poster is the cover-photo from the Matchstick Productions film (filmed by Robbs brother Scott) 1999, showcasing Robb throwing a huge backflip at Squaw Valley (now Palisades). A shirt, hoodie, and premium sweatshirt in various colors have “1999” displayed on the front, with the same photo on the back.

Whether supporting by purchasing these commemoratives, bidding on the auction for a signed copy of ‘Squallywood’ or directly donating to the Gaffney family through GoFundMe, every positive thought and contribution goes a long way.
