It’s been a wet one in the Cascades but Mt. Baker’s upper snow pack is holding on like a champ and if you got up high earlier in the week you could get some goods.  Baker received 2″ of new snow overnight Saturday, 4″ in 24 hours and we’ll take it!  With 32″ at Heather Meadows base and 52″ at the base of Pan Dome, Baker got nailed with the warm front and precipitation all week.  The temp is hovering just above freezing at very upper mountain but it’s been a downright warm week – forcing Baker to close early on Friday because the weather was bad enough not even a true northwest skier wanted to venture out.

With rumors of other Washington resorts closing this coming week, we will just have to wait and see what happens.  Baker is operating limited chairs (1-3 and the handle toe only this weekend) and out of the Heather Meadows base area.  They are offering discounted lift tickets, free hot cider, and free hot waxes (for the first 75 people who show up Sunday) so they are trying.  Skiing is always fun but this season is really testing our faith in Ullr.

Baker had to move the date of the 30th annual Legendary Banked Slalom to March 19 – 22, 2015 in hopes that winter will show up in a few weeks. And as you can see in the forecast, it’s time for more than some dances and gear sacrifices, I just don’t know what it is.
