NOAA: “A Moderate To Strong Atmospheric River-Type System” For CA This Weekend | Heavy Snow Possible Saturday & Sunday

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for The Sierra that’s calling for a Winter Storm next weekend. California could see high winds, heavy snow, and lowering snow levels throughout the weekend. It’s expected to be the first meaningful Winter Storm of the season.

After a week of unseasonably warm temperatures, a large pattern shift is expected for next weekend. A moderate to strong Atmospheric River-type system will begin to impact the western United States late this week into the weekend,” stated NOAA Reno, NV on their Facebook page.

Snow levels are expected to start out relatively high on Friday, but they are forecasted to drop below 5,500ft by the end of the weekend.

...Winter Storm Possible Next Weekend...

A Winter Storm is forecast to move into northern California and
northern Nevada by Friday with snow impacting travel over the
Sierra Saturday and Sunday. Windy conditions and periods of rain
and snow are possible for western Nevada.

* What can we expect in the Sierra? Gusty winds, rain and snow
 starting Friday with heavy snow possible Saturday and Sunday.
 Travel could be difficult at times.

* How about western Nevada? Gusty winds Friday into Saturday with
 some light rain possible. Best chance for rain is Saturday into
 Sunday. Snow levels may fall below 5500 feet by the end of the
 weekend, with accumulating snow possible.

* What should I do? Complete winterizing projects for your home
 and vehicles this week. Clear gutters and street drains of
 leaves. Prepare a winter kit if you plan to travel into the
 Sierra; including tire chains, water and snacks.
