NOAA is forecasting a series of three storms to come through California this week.  None of them are forecast to be very strong, but they will open the storm door once again and should be the beginning of an active weather pattern in California.

Best chance for moderate snow appears to be Tuesday.

NOAA is currently projecting 6-12″ of snow in Tahoe between today and Wednesday and 6-12″ of snow in Mammoth between now and Jan. 8th.

“Storms lining up across the Pacific this morning! The first two waves will bring light precipitation, mainly across the Coastal Range and northern Sacramento Valley. Tuesday’s storm will be wetter with widespread rain and snow across the area. Active pattern looks to continue through the week.” – NOAA Sacramento, CA today

“A series of fast moving but generally weak weather systems will reach the western U.S. next week. Monday’s weather system is likely to be the weakest, with only light snow possible for the Sierra and northeast California. For Tuesday, conditions appear more favorable for a moderate snow event near the Sierra, with periods of light snow and rain possible for western Nevada. Another round of light to moderate snow is possible late next week. There is a large degree of uncertainty with storm tracks as each weather system moves inland, so forecast snowfall amounts, locations and timing will likely vary. While temperatures will not be as cold compared to this weekend, significant warming is unlikely. Therefore, the potential for snow or a snow/rain mix will continue down to most lower elevations, with all snow expected near the Sierra including the Lake Tahoe basin.” – NOAA Reno NV, today
