NOAA: Winter Storm Warnings All Over Southern California | 6-24″ of Snow Forecaset

NOAA has Winter Storm Warnings issued all over Southern California’s mountains for Monday and Tuesday.

Some of these Winter Storm Warnings in Santa Barbara are located only 3 miles from the beach…

In general, 6-24″ of snow is forecast in the Coastal Mountains of Southern California and the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains.

This forecast includes:

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Plan on treacherous conditions above 5000 feet. 
1-5 inches of snow is possible between 5000 and 6000 feet, 6-12 inches 
between 6000 and 7000 feet and over a foot above 7000 feet, with isolated 
amounts approaching 2 feet possible.

The mountains around Los Angeles rise as high as 11,500-feet.

Southern California has 22 peaks that are over 10,000-feet tall – these are all located in the San Bernardino Mountains, the San Jacinto Mountains.

Including the cities of Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear City,
Big Bear Lake, Running Springs, Wrightwood,
and Idyllwild-Pine Cove

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON MONDAY TO 10 AM PST
TUESDAY ABOVE 5000 FEET...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Plan on treacherous conditions above 5000
  feet. 1-5 inches of snow is possible between 5000 and 6000 feet,
  6-12 inches between 6000 and 7000 feet and over a foot above
  7000 feet, with isolated amounts approaching 2 feet possible.

* WHERE...mountains above 5000 feet.

* WHEN...Noon Monday to 10 AM Tuesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...It will become windy with south winds
  gusting to around 40 mph by Monday night. Areas of dense fog and
  falling snow will reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile at
  times.
