Palisades Tahoe Operations Update for April 19 – Written by Liz Worgan

These warm temps sure are getting us excited for summer, but ski season isn’t over yet. At Alpine, we have a little over a week left in the season, while at Palisades, we plan to keep making turns through May 27th (Memorial Day). We want to ski everything as long as possible, so we’re not calling hard closure dates for most chairlifts. When it burns out, that’s when we’ll stop skiing it. Here is our best guess for what might happen.*

*The key word here is “guess” because, with warm temperatures, snowpack can be truly unpredictable.

Alpine

  • This is the last weekend for Scott. We have to get started on summer maintenance work here (as well as on Lakeview, which closed last weekend).
  • Alpine’s Closing Day is scheduled for Sunday, April 28th.
  • We think Sherwood will make it through Closing Day with the current snowpack. (It was closed today for an electrical issue.)
  • The Base to Base Gondola will also close after Sunday, April 28th.

Palisades

  • Today was the last day of Silverado. We had to make the difficult decision to call it. Oregon Trail is close to burning out, and we need to have one day with snowcat access to transport Ski Patrol and Lift Maintenance to the bottom to clean up and close down. We hope you took some turns here over the past few weeks while it has been open.
  • Belmont will close after this Sunday, April 21st. Moving forward, our Terrain Park offering in Gold Coast and in Emigrant Gully will be firing.
  • We aim to have Resort Chair, Red Dog, and KT-22 through April 28th. KT-22 may last longer than that. Headwall could also close around this time if the road connecting it and KT-22 melts out. Our grooming team is doing everything possible to maintain it, but snowmelt in these warm temperatures is furious.
  • Operating hours may change in May, but we are not quite there yet. We’ll post here as soon as we know.
  • We will provide an update on the terrain we expect to have in May towards the end of this month.
  • Palisades’ Closing Day is scheduled for Monday, May 27th.
