Panorama Mountain Resort opens today as the first British Columbian ski resort to open for the 2017/18 season. This is the resorts earliest opening on record. It’s all thanks to a lot of early season snowfall, cold temperatures, and some help from the snowmakers.

Panorama Mountain Resort’s Opening Day Announcement:

By: Laura Matthew

SKI THIS WEEKEND!

Panorama is the first resort in B.C. to open for the 2017-18 season.

We’ve never done this before. Yep, it’s our first time and we’re happy to announce that we’re going to open early and get folks sliding on snow sooner than ever before. This weekend. Tomorrow! In fact, it looks like we’re opening before anyone else in BC. And on top of that, there’s more snow in the forecast!

It seems as though Panorama is getting December dumps in November this year. We’ve had some significant snowfall, with more than half-a-metre falling in just a few days. “Could it be possible? Can we start skiing already?” we wondered.

How could we find out? Well, we did what any sensible mountain resort worth their half-a-century of experience would do, and sent up our resident Olympic athlete, Manny Osborne Paradis, to check things out. Manny headed to the top of the run, threw on his goggles and slashed out some solid turns, the way only an Olympian can. The mountain got carved, Manny gave us a huge smile, and we determined that now is the time to start riding!

On November 10, 11, 12 & 13, Panorama will be open for skiing and riding, with the Mile 1 Express chair running and skiing available on Showoff. We’re not saying this is full-on deep 100% epic mid-season conditions. But we will say this is epic for November. We’ve never seen anything like it before at this time of year.

Say so-long to the couch, crash the binge watching sessions, and get up here and kick-off the season with the earliest turns ever.

LIFT TICKETS

    • Adult 1-Day: $40 + GST
    • Youth / Senior 1-Day: $34 + GST
    • Child 1-Day: $19 + GST
    • Season Pass holders are welcome to pick up their new RFID card and enjoy these first bonus days on snow. Please know that you may encounter line-ups. Our team will be using the brand new RFID system for the first time and although it’s been fully tested, we do expect a couple of hiccups along the way. We’ll get you on the snow as fast as we can.
    • Snow+ Card holders can also pick up their RFID card but we recommend waiting for the regular season to use included days (3 or 5 days). If you want to ski this weekend it’s best that you buy a 1-Day ticket at Guest Services. Please note that your Snow+ Card discount does not apply until regular operations commence.

TERRAIN

    • You can ski Friday, November 10th through Monday, November 13th.
    • The Mile 1 Express will open from 9:00am to 4:00pm each day, accessing Showoff only.
    • All other lifts and trails are closed as snowmaking and grooming operations continue. It won’t be long until we open much more terrain! We’ll keep you posted.
    • On Tuesday we have to hand the mountain back to racers from around the world so they can prepare for World Cup and the Winter Olympics. The Canadian and Swiss national teams will be ripping Panorama snow soon.

GEAR

    • Sorry, ski and snowboard rentals are not available on the mountain this weekend. Please bring your own gear to enjoy the snow (Alpine and Nordic).
    • Our friends at Syndicate Boardshop in Invermere do have rental equipment.

EATS

    • The Picnic Cafe will be open for breakfast and lunch.
    • The T-Bar & Grill will open at 12noon for lunch, Après and dinner (there will be a limited menu on offer).
    • You are welcome to use the Great Hall for dressing, warming and to eat your own lunch. There is no food or drink service available.

This is a season of firsts for Panorama. One year ago, we won the coveted title of North American Resort of the Year at the World Snow Awards, presented in London, U.K. This year, we introduce RFID lift access and massively increased snowmaking capacity. And in truly scary news, we’ll soon open some monstrous new terrain in Taynton Bowl, meaning Panorama’s vertical is now top 3 in Canada!

Enough about firsts, don’t wait another second!
