The dusting of snow that fell across Colorado last week found its way to Arapahoe Basin yesterday. We shared photos of Pikes Peak and Berthoud Pass with a winter blanket recently, and these latest pictures, sent to SnowBrains by reader Clay Wright, show the first Colorado ski resort with a dusting of snow.
“Yesterday afternoon was pretty stormy up here and some white stuff fell out of the sky. In the base area, it was more like hail. One of the Via Ferrata guides told me it was more like snow up high. There is always the question, “Is this the last snow of last season or the first snow of the coming season?” In late August, I tend to think it is the first of the coming season. It is fun to get excited, but this snow won’t last. In fact, we will have a few storms like this that don’t last, but it is fun to start thinking about skiing.”
– Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin COO, on August 23rd
The resort will begin making snow as soon as temperatures allow, usually in the first week or so of October.
In the last ten years, Arapahoe Basin has been the first resort in North America to open five times.ย Will they be the first this winter?
While itโs not uncommon to see snow mid-summer on Coloradoโs 14,000โฒ peaks, this one at a ski resort hits us especially hard knowing that meteorological fall starts in only 8-days on September 1.
Astronomical fall starts in only 29-days on September 22!
Winter is comingโฆ
Thanks for sharing this one. I appreciate it. I have a game that I can play online alone or with friends at no cost. It would be great to enjoy it on free days.
