The vibe in Aspen was electric as the first day of the 2024 X Games at Aspen Buttermilk kicked off with the men’s and women’s snowboard superpipe events. As the sun began to set on Friday night, 16 olympic-level snowboarders geared up geared up to take on the superpipe in the Aspen Buttermilk terrain park. With 22-foot-high walls stretching down the mountain for 567 feet, the Buttermilk Superpipe is a finely manicured monster that can launch competitors more than 20 feet in the air. At the end of the night, Australian Scotty James ended up coming away with the gold in the men’s event with Ruka Hirano and Kaishu Hirano coming in second and third, respectively. On the women’s side, two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim came out on top with Mitsuki Ono and Xuetong Cai rounding out the podium.
