Snowboarder Dies After Hitting Snow Cannon at Flims-Laax-Falera Resort, Switzerland

On Tuesday, December 27, 2023, a snowboarder collided with a snow cannon in the Flims-Laax-Falera ski area in Switzerland. He died as a result of his serious injuries, according to the cantonal police of Graubünden.

According to the press release by the police, the snowboarder rode down the ski slope No. 52 on Tuesday, December 27, around 10:45 a.m. On the approach to Curnius, he collided violently with a protective mat wrapped around a snow cannon shortly after a stack immediately adjacent to the slope.

Third parties alerted the Mountain Operations rescue service and provided first aid. Efforts were continued by members of the Flims Laax Falera Mountain Operations emergency team as well as by the emergency staff of the Swiss Air Rescue “Rega” which arrived by helicopter.

The man was flown by Rega helicopter to the Cantonal Hospital of Graubünden, where he died in the afternoon. Together with the public prosecutor’s office, the cantonal police of Graubünden are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
