Some Of The First East Coast Ski Areas Will Open For The Season This Weekend

Mount Snow, Vermont and Wildcat Mountain, New Hampshire will be opening this weekend, Saturday November 11.  Wildcat has always been known for early openings but, this is the earliest opening date in decades. They will be celebrating their 60th anniversary season. This will be the earliest Mount Snow has ever opened.

Snowmaking at Wildcat began this morning and Mount Snow will begin on Wednesday. Mount Snow has invested a substantial amount of money into their snowmaking program. $30 million in upgrades makes the new system the most powerful system in the North East, it is part of the West Lake project.

“The West Lake project along with its substantial improvement to our snowmaking system has been a huge undertaking and we’re excited to show what it can do,” said Erik Barnes, general manager of Mount Snow. “Our skiers and riders will really see the difference from day one and throughout the entirety of the season.” – Mount Snow

Snowmaking conditions have been ideal lately for both Resorts. Temperatures have been cold at Wildcat, with a low of 21 degrees and high near 39 today. At Mount Snow temperatures have been around 36 degrees in the day.
